Staying connected

“To listen well is as powerful a means of communication and influence as to talk well.”

~John Marshall

Over the past week I had the opportunity to meet with many OHA employees through a series of face-to-face meetings in Portland and Salem.

These conversations have been both meaningful and helpful for me. I heard from you clearly that you want more information. You want to know more about the changes we are facing as an agency, what the changes at Cover Oregon will mean for clients and for staff, and how you can stay connected to the larger vision of bringing better health, better care and lower costs to our state.

You also want to make sure that as all these changes happen, the story of what it means for more than 300,000 people to gain health care coverage in the coordinated care model isn’t lost.

I can do that.

In the weeks and months to come I will use this weekly message, face-to-face meetings, and other communication channels to keep you updated about the progress of the Cover Oregon transition. I will preview news about health system transformation milestones and give you clear examples of the effects our work is having in the lives of Oregonians.

The other thing that is clear after the meetings this week is that the people of OHA are dedicated to the vision that created this agency in 2009: delivering better health, better care and lower costs for the people of this state. That means making sure that people have access to high quality health care coverage. Ending the era when an unexpected injury could lead to bankruptcy and economic ruin for people. And changing the rules of the game so that the health system delivers health care, not just sick care.

I am inspired by what I heard from you and I look forward to continuing this work together.
