True public service

“Not for ourselves alone are we born.
~ Cicero

In appreciation of Public Service Recognition Week, we have been sending daily messages profiling some of OHA's dedicated and creative public servants. If you have missed the messages in your inbox, you can find them here.

In my last week as Acting Director at our agency, these profiles take on an even greater meaning.

Because let's face it…there's public service and there's public service.

At OHA, the work we do is fundamental to the health and lives of the people of our state. We touch the lives of every Oregonian every day whether through the public health division, the Oregon Health Plan and PEBB and OEBB, community mental health, the Oregon State Hospital, and all the other work we do.

Our mission at OHA is clear in that we know what we are driving towards. That people across our state should have access to patient-centered care that is focused on improving their health. That we can change the system so that prevention is central to health care rather than an afterthought. That people living with mental illness and addiction issues can have high-quality services that promote hope, recovery and wellness.

I see the signs everywhere that we have made – and are making – incredible progress. I am proud of what you have done improving the lives of Oregonians and I am proud to have been a part of it.
