Taking care of ourselves

“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.”
~Hippocrates

In a work environment as demanding as ours, it can be all too easy to neglect our own health and well-being. We know how it is. Long hours at the desk combined with nasty weather outside can mean we’ve hardly moved at all by the end of the day. It’s a cycle that can be tough to break out of.

That’s why I am very pleased to see that, along with springtime tulips, there are new and healthy activities blooming at the Oregon Health Authority. Across the agency people are taking small and large steps to improve their health, lower stress and increase well-being.

Just this week, I’ve heard of people teaming up to start a running program, gathering for group walks and starting a vegetable garden to have better access to fresh and healthy foods.

I want to also make sure everyone is aware of the program offered as part of our PEBB benefits, “Healthy Team Healthy U.” It’s designed to give us support to be more physically active, eat healthier and better manage stress. The program features online activities and a team-based approach for healthy activities during the work day.

Many OHA employees have signed up and are moving full speed ahead.

“We can get into a rut. Healthy Team Healthy U is a great tool to get us up, motivated and going again!” says Glenda Rees, an administrative specialist in financial services. She is part of a team at the Human Services Building.

Check out all the great information offered by Healthy Team Healthy U: https://pebb.healthyteam-secure.com/public/. If you and your coworkers have a Healthy Team Healthy U group, let me know. I’d love to hear your stories.
