Take time for your own health

"Those who do not find time for exercise will have to find time for illness."
~Edward Smith-Stanley (1752-1834) – English statesman, three times Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Here at the Oregon Health Authority, we spend a lot of time talking about the health of everyone in the state. Now it is time to focus on our own.

It's open enrollment time for Public Employees' Benefit Board members.

In our health plan benefits, there are several new and exciting tools that we can take advantage of.

For example, "Healthy Team, Healthy U" is an online workplace wellness program that provides encouragement and motivation for teams to work together to eat better and get active. "Better Choices Better Health" helps those of us living with chronic disease. This year we also have available a diabetes prevention program focused on helping those of us at risk for the illness to understand how lifestyle changes can fend off the disease.

As in years past we also have access to smoking cessation programs, substance abuse treatment and Weight Watchers. Research shows PEBB members are using these benefits and overall our health is improving. We remain committed to benefits that prioritize preventive care, offer incentives to help improve health and hold plans and providers accountable for the money we spend. Like the rest of the agency, PEBB's goal is better health, better care at a price we can all afford.

Enrollment is open now and lasts through October 31. For questions about your benefits or help enrolling, please consider attending one of the many PEBB Open Enrollment meetings scheduled in the next few weeks. You can find a list of meetings on the PEBB website. You can also call 503-373-1102 or email your questions to Inquiries.PEBB@state.or.us. Take some time to stay healthy and remember to enroll soon.
